The Legio Cybernetica was the order of the Mechanicum devoted to the creation and control of battle-automata, soulless engines of war that marched to the commands of their masters. Where a servitor was a lobotomised drudge, the automata of the Cybernetica were killing machines governed by intricate cortex-programming and the sacred protocols of their datasmiths.
The order walked a perilous line, for the wisdom of the Dark Age warned against machines that could think for themselves, the abominable intelligences whose rebellion had once nearly destroyed mankind. The datasmiths of the Mechanicum bound their creations with layered restrictions, ensuring the automata obeyed doctrina wafers and command protocols rather than any will of their own.
In the wars of the Heresy, the Legio Cybernetica's cohorts marched to slaughter on both sides of the divide, their tireless engines caring nothing for oaths or betrayal. Freed of conscience and immune to fear, they were among the most implacable instruments the Machine-God's servants could unleash.
