Tanith

Tanith was a forested world of the Sabbat Worlds region, a quiet planet of endless woodlands whose people were skilled woodsmen, scouts, and trackers. Its inhabitants possessed an almost preternatural sense of direction and stealth, moving through the deep forests of their home with a silence and surety that few outsiders could match. It was an unremarkable world, until the day of its death.

When the Imperium raised its first regiments from Tanith to serve in the Astra Militarum, the muster coincided with a sudden assault by the forces of Chaos. As the newly formed regiments prepared to depart, the world was overrun and consumed by fire, and their commander made the anguished choice to flee with those already aboard the transports rather than see them all die for a world already lost.

Thus the survivors became the Tanith First and Only, a regiment with no home to return to, the sole remnant of a murdered world. Bitter, resourceful, and fiercely loyal to one another, they carry the memory of lost Tanith with them across the long crusade, earning renown as peerless scouts and stealth troops. Marked by the tragedy of their founding, the Ghosts of Tanith fight on in the name of a homeworld that exists now only in their grief and their resolve.
