Deepwood Scouts

Hidden archers who become one with the forest, loosing their first arrows from cover the enemy never suspected and never see until it is far too late.

The Deepwood Scouts are the eyes and the silent killers of the Wood Elf host, rangers so at home in the wild that they seem to melt into leaf and shadow, invisible until the very moment they choose to kill. Where the Glade Guard loose their volleys in ordered ranks, the Scouts fight alone and unseen, slipping through the densest thickets without a sound and taking up positions deep in the enemy's midst before a single arrow flies. Armed with longbows and a hunter's endless patience, they pick off sentries, commanders, and stragglers with unerring aim, sowing confusion and fear long before the main battle is joined. The enemy learns of their presence only when men begin to fall with arrows in their throats, loosed from a treeline that appeared to hold nothing at all. Masters of ambush and misdirection, the Deepwood Scouts wage the kind of war the Wood Elves love best — patient, unseen, and utterly one-sided — bleeding an intruding army from the shadows until it stumbles, exhausted and unnerved, onto the waiting spears of the host.
