The War Altar of Sigmar is a sacred war machine of the Empire, a towering gilded shrine drawn into battle upon a great armoured carriage and bearing the holiest relics of the Cult of Sigmar. Atop the altar rides an Arch Lector of the church, a warrior-priest of the highest rank who invokes the blessings of the God-King upon the faithful and calls down his righteous wrath upon the enemies of the Empire of Man.
Where the War Altar rolls, the courage of the devout is renewed, for its presence steels the hearts of state troops and pilgrims who fight in its holy shadow. The Arch Lector wields prayers of protection and vengeance, and the relics enshrined within the altar are said to turn aside the corrupting magics of the Dark Gods and shield the faithful from harm.
Each War Altar is a rolling cathedral, its construction blessed by the highest offices of the Grand Theogonist in Altdorf. To march beside it is to march in the light of Sigmar himself, a rallying point of faith against the daemons, greenskins, and heretics that assail the lands of men.
