The God of the Ogres

The Great Maw

A ravening god of pure hunger, the Great Maw is worshipped by the Ogres through endless gluttony, destruction, and the devouring of all things.

The Great Maw is the god of the Ogre Kingdoms, a deity unlike any other in the world, for it is nothing but hunger given divine form. The ogres tell that in ages past a great darkness fell screaming from the heavens and struck their mountain homeland, devouring their kings, their cities, and half their race in a single catastrophic instant, and leaving behind a vast and bottomless chasm they name the Great Maw.

From that day the surviving ogres worshipped the very thing that had consumed them. To serve the Great Maw is to eat, endlessly and without limit, for gluttony is the highest devotion and starvation the only sin. An ogre's belly is held to be a sacred organ, a small piece of the Maw itself, and its ceaseless growling is the voice of the god demanding to be fed.

The priests of this faith, the Butchers, are grotesque shamans who work their crude magic through the eating of foul and forbidden ingredients, drawing power from all they devour. Under their blessing the ogre tribes rampage across the world as mercenaries and marauders, selling their vast strength for meat and plunder, and consuming all that lies in their path.

The Great Maw is destruction as worship and appetite as creed, a god that offers its children nothing but the eternal, gnawing need to consume. To feed it is to feed the whole race's bottomless faith, and the Maw, like the ogres it made, is never, ever full.
