The Katophrane Curse is the terrible doom laid upon the mirrored city of Shadespire, a metropolis of the Realm of Death whose masters grew rich trading in the currency of immortality. The Katophrane nobility hoarded shard-souls and bartered eternal life, until their arrogance drew the wrath of Nagash, the Great Necromancer, who denied them the escape of death itself.
When the God of the Dead cursed Shadespire, the city was cast into a shadowed half-existence between the realms. Its people were trapped in a purgatory where they could neither truly live nor die, doomed to wander a labyrinth of glass and stone for eternity. The city became a prison-maze, and all who enter risk being ensnared within its endless corridors.
Since then, warriors, nighthaunt spectres and treasure-seekers have been drawn into the cursed city, fighting endless battles among its mirrored halls. Shadespire endures as a monument to hubris punished, a place where death is a mercy forever withheld.
