Pavonis is a prosperous Imperial world of teeming manufactories and rich mineral wealth, its export of ore and finished goods making it a jewel of commerce in its sector. Yet beneath its industrious surface run deep currents of intrigue, for great fortunes breed great ambition, and Pavonis has long been a nest of scheming noble houses, grasping guilds and rival factions vying for control of its wealth.

That febrile atmosphere made the world fertile ground for sedition. Insurrection flared across its hive-sprawls and mining-camps, stoked by agitators whose true masters proved to be far darker than any earthly rebel. Alien influence and heretical taint wormed through the planet's ruling class, until open war engulfed its streets and only the intervention of the Imperial Agents of the Emperor kept Pavonis from slipping entirely into damnation.

Order was restored, though at a cost measured in purges and pyres, and Pavonis returned to its ceaseless labour beneath a watchful and unforgiving gaze. Its factories still churn and its mines still yield their riches, but the world stands as a lesson in how easily prosperity curdles into treachery, and how the enemies of Man need only patience and a whisper to turn a loyal world against the Throne.
