Dimmamar was long counted among the more enlightened worlds of the Imperium, a civilised sphere renowned as a seat of scholarship and faith. Its libraries and shrine-colleges drew scholars and pilgrims alike, and its people prided themselves on their learning and their devotion to the Emperor of Mankind. In a galaxy of ignorance and superstition, it was a rare light of knowledge.

That light was very nearly snuffed out when the world became a battleground in a great daemonic incursion, its skies torn open and its cities engulfed by the howling hordes of the Blood God. The slaughter was terrible, and only the intervention of the Emperor's Space Marines and the desperate courage of its defenders spared Dimmamar from utter annihilation. The scars of that horror mark the world still, a reminder of how thin the veil is that separates order from the Warp's madness.

In the aftermath, Dimmamar rebuilt, though it never fully recovered the innocence of its former age. Its scholars turned their learning to the study of the enemy, and its shrines rang with prayers of both gratitude and dread. It endures now as a civilised world scarred by first-hand knowledge of the galaxy's true nature, its people forever watchful for the return of the darkness that once came so close to consuming them all.
