Plasma weapon

Plasma Cannon

A heavy plasma weapon that unleashes searing balls of star-hot matter capable of vaporising armour, flesh, and the gunner alike.

The Plasma Cannon is the heaviest of the man-portable plasma weapons wielded across the Imperium, a squat and brutal device that harnesses hydrogen fuel and superheats it into a churning sphere of matter hotter than the surface of a sun. When discharged, it hurls this incandescent bolt across the battlefield, and where it strikes, ceramite runs like wax and armoured warriors are reduced to shadows scorched upon the earth.

Within the arsenals of the space-marines, the Plasma Cannon is entrusted to Devastator squads and heavy support units who prize its power against elite infantry and light vehicles alike. Yet its might is inseparable from its peril, for the weapon must vent tremendous heat between each shot. A gunner who fires too swiftly, or whose cooling coils fail, may find the containment fields collapsing in a catastrophic detonation that immolates the wielder in the very fire he sought to command.

Tech-priests regard each Plasma Cannon as a temperamental machine-spirit demanding constant appeasement, its firing rituals precise and its cooling cycles sacred. To carry one into battle is to bear a caged star upon one's shoulders, and only the disciplined and the devout may hope to master it without being consumed. In the grim calculus of war, its slaughter of the enemy is judged worth the lives it occasionally claims from those who bear it.
