The Hand Flamer is a compact incendiary weapon, a pistol-sized cousin to the larger flamers of the Imperium, designed to be wielded in a single hand and paired with a blade or second weapon. Despite its diminished size, it loses none of the visceral horror of its greater kin, spewing a short cone of blazing promethium that engulfs foes in cleansing, roaring fire.
Among the adepta-sororitas, the Hand Flamer holds a place of particular reverence, for fire is the sacred instrument by which the Sisters of Battle purge corruption and heresy from the galaxy. A Sister may wield blade and hand flamer together, cutting down the foe with one hand while immolating the impure with the other, her every action a hymn of destruction offered to the God-Emperor.
The weapon excels in the close and desperate press of boarding actions and cramped tunnel fighting, where its short range is no hindrance and its area of effect drives back massed foes in screaming panic. There is no cover from fire, no armour that spares the wearer from the heat, only the terrible choice of burning where one stands or fleeing into a killing field. In the hands of the faithful, the Hand Flamer is both weapon and sacrament, a portable pyre for the enemies of Mankind.
