The gauss flayer is the standard weapon of the Necron warrior, and one of the most horrifying arms in the galaxy. It does not burn or blast; it strips its victim away layer by layer, flensing skin, muscle and bone into nothing in a lightning-green beam until only a settling haze of dust marks where a living being once stood.
Gauss weapons work by tearing matter apart at the atomic scale, unbinding the very substance of whatever they touch. Armour offers no protection worth the name, for the beam disassembles ceramite and plasteel as readily as it does flesh, peeling a tank open as easily as a man. The eerie, flickering glow of massed gauss fire, rising over a silent horizon, heralds the advance of the undying legions.
Wielded by soulless constructs that feel neither fear nor fatigue, the gauss flayer is borne in endless, patient ranks that march forward regardless of losses, flaying all before them without haste or hesitation. To face a Necron phalanx is to watch an army be erased from existence a soldier at a time, its victims not merely killed but unmade, by weapons that were ancient before the first human ever looked up at the stars. Few sights in the galaxy inspire so deep and cold a dread. No warrior who has watched a comrade flensed to drifting ash by that green light ever forgets it, and it is by such horrors, as much as by any victory, that the Necrons remind the galaxy why they were once its masters.
