The Combi-Weapon is a masterwork of Imperial gunsmithing, a standard boltgun wedded to a second, specialised weapon slung beneath or alongside its barrel. Melta, plasma, flamer, or grav variants each grant the bearer a single potent discharge, a killing surprise held in reserve for the instant when reliable bolt-fire will not suffice.
Among the Space Marines such weapons are marks of veterancy and command, carried by sergeants, captains, and the elite so that a warrior may pour out a stream of bolts through a fight and then, at the decisive moment, unleash the melta-blast that guts a tank or the plasma bolt that fells a warlord. The choice of the second muzzle reflects the mission and the wielder's foresight.
Each combi-weapon is a relic of complex craft, its dual firing mechanisms demanding double the litanies and double the care from the Techmarines who tend it. The reserve charge is rarely more than a single shot, and so a wise warrior hoards it, waiting through the din of battle for the one heartbeat when its release will change everything. It is patience and firepower forged into a single, versatile instrument of war.
