Xenos species

Loxatl

Amphibious, gliding mercenary reptiles who fight in silent broods and are paid in flesh, sound, and stranger currencies still.

The Loxatl are an amphibious, reptilian xenos species prized across the galaxy's underworlds as some of the most disciplined and lethal mercenaries for hire. Low-slung and salamander-like, they possess membranes that let them glide and cling to sheer surfaces, striking from ceilings and walls before a foe knows they are there. Their flechette blasters strip flesh from bone in a hail of razored shards.

Loxatl fight in tightly coordinated broods, communicating through subsonic vibrations and chemical scents that bind a war-pack into a single silent organism. They feel no loyalty to any cause, only to the contract, and they have been known to sell their skills to renegades, heretics, and even the servants of Chaos when the payment is right. Stranger still, the currencies they accept are rarely coin — flesh, exotic sensations, and other inscrutable rewards satisfy the brood-minds better than any wealth.

Where the Loxatl come from, and what their broods truly want, has never been established. They keep no embassies and leave no survivors to interrogate. To hire them is to invite a cold and alien efficiency into one's war, and to trust that the contract will hold. When it does, few foes on the field prove deadlier; when it does not, the employer often becomes the next entry on the brood's grim ledger.
