The Ambull is a large and ferocious burrowing xenos beast, originally native to the desert world of Luther McIntyre but since spread, deliberately or by accident, across countless arid worlds of the galaxy. Standing taller than a man and immensely powerful, the Ambull possesses vast digging claws hard enough to shear through solid rock and a hide of thick, heat-shedding chitin. It tunnels ceaselessly through the deep earth, sensing the vibrations of prey through the stone.
Ambulls are ambush predators of terrifying efficiency, erupting from beneath the ground to seize their victims before they can react. Their capacity to detect infrared makes darkness no shelter, and their strength lets them tear through bulkheads and mining machinery with ease. Because they thrive in the tunnels and sub-levels where humans toil, Ambull infestations plague mining colonies and hive under-cities alike, and clearing them is bloody, claustrophobic work.
The beasts have proven grimly useful to the cruel amusements of the Imperium as well. Captured Ambulls are sometimes loosed in arena blood-sports, and specialised huntsmen among the Imperial Agents and other bodies are occasionally tasked with exterminating them from valuable worlds. Whether stalking the sands of some forgotten desert or the depths of a hive's foundations, the Ambull remains a nightmare made flesh — patient, relentless, and always digging closer.
