Xenos species

Jokaero

Orangutan-like savants whose instinctive genius for technology surpasses the Imperium's finest minds, though they show no sign of true intelligence.

The Jokaero are a species of ape-like xenos, uncannily similar in appearance to the orangutans of ancient Terra, whose relationship with technology defies all reason. They design and construct devices of breathtaking sophistication — weapons, force fields, and gravitic engines that shame the sacred lore of the Adeptus Mechanicus — yet they appear to possess no language, no culture, and no evident consciousness beyond animal instinct.

Their gift for engineering seems purely biological, an inbuilt facility as natural to them as web-spinning is to a spider. A Jokaero can fashion a digital weapon small enough to be set in a ring, capable of felling a warrior in a single pulse. Because they cannot be reasoned with, only kept, the Inquisition prizes captive Jokaero above almost any other xenos. Imperial Agents and Inquisitorial retinues sometimes carry one as a living arsenal, indulging its whims in exchange for its miraculous craft.

Whether the Jokaero are a fallen race, a deliberately engineered tool, or something stranger still, no scholar has ever determined. They tinker, they build, and they gaze out with eyes that betray nothing. The Imperium exploits their genius while understanding nothing of its source — a bargain it has long since learned to make with the unknowable.
