Valhalla is a frozen world locked in an eternal ice age, a planet of glaciers, blizzards, and subzero wastes where survival demands endurance beyond the ken of warmer worlds. Its people dwell in vast subterranean cities carved beneath the ice, sheltering from the killing cold, and from birth they are inured to hardship, scarcity, and the ever-present nearness of death.
The world's defining trauma came when a massive Ork invasion descended upon it long ago. With their cities besieged and their armies hard-pressed, the Valhallans fought a brutal war of attrition, ultimately luring the greenskins into the open and relying on their world's murderous winter to help annihilate the foe. The victory came at a staggering cost in lives, and it seared itself into the planet's soul.
From that ordeal emerged the Valhallan Ice Warriors, regiments of the Astra Militarum renowned for their stoic disregard for casualties and their mastery of siege and attrition warfare. Accustomed to spending lives without flinching, they excel at grinding, defensive campaigns where numbers and resolve outlast the enemy. Wrapped in greatcoats and inured to suffering, the sons and daughters of Valhalla carry the cold patience of their homeworld to war zones across the galaxy, where they hold the line long after others would have broken.
