The Quest for Knowledge is the central sacred pursuit of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the eternal endeavour to recover the lost wisdom of the Machine God and reunite the scattered fragments of humanity's technological inheritance. To the tech-priests, all knowledge is divine revelation, and its accumulation is the highest form of worship they can offer to the Omnissiah.
At the heart of the Quest lies the search for the complete Standard Template Construct system, the miraculous database that once allowed mankind to build anything, anywhere. The rediscovery of even a single lost pattern is cause for jubilation across a thousand forge worlds, while whole crusades and expeditions are mounted into the darkness in pursuit of such prizes.
Yet the Quest is bound by rigid orthodoxy, for the Cult Mechanicus holds that true knowledge must be recovered rather than invented. To create wholly new technology is to court the sin of innovation, and so the priesthood forever gazes backward, seeking to reclaim the glories of an age that will never come again.
