The Pyre Guard were the honour retinue of Vulkan, primarch of the Salamanders, a brotherhood of master artificers and warriors chosen to stand at their father's side. Clad in wargear forged by their own hands upon the volcanic anvils of Nocturne, they embodied the Legion's union of craft and courage.
Among the Salamanders, to be counted a Pyre Guard was the highest honour, reserved for those who had proven both peerless skill at the forge and unyielding valour in battle. Each bore weapons of their own making, relics that would outlast their bearers by centuries.
At the drop-site massacre of Isstvan V, the Pyre Guard fought amid the betrayal that near-annihilated the loyalist Legions. Scattered and broken, the survivors carried Vulkan's flame into the darkness, their number dwindling as they hunted for their lost primarch and struck at the traitors who had shattered their brotherhood.
