The Promethean Cult was the faith of the Salamanders, a creed of fire and self-reliance drawn from the harsh volcanic world of Nocturne. It taught that hardship was the forge in which worth was proven, that a warrior must temper himself as a smith tempers a blade, and that the strength of the community outweighed the glory of any single champion.
At its heart lay reverence for the primarch Vulkan and the ideals he embodied, mastery of the smith's craft, protection of the weak, and endurance in the face of suffering. Where other Legions prized conquest and honour, the sons of Nocturne held to duty and compassion, seeing in the defence of ordinary humanity the truest expression of their purpose.
Unusual among the largely secular Legions, the Cult blended martial doctrine with something close to genuine faith, though it fixed its devotion upon example and craft rather than godhood. Amid the horrors of Isstvan V, where the Salamanders were all but broken, that steadfast creed became the ember from which the Legion's survival was rekindled.
