The Gal Vorbak

The Horus Heresy

The Gal Vorbak, the 'Blessed Sons' in the tongue of Colchis, were the first of the Word Bearers to be knowingly possessed by the daemons of the warp. Chosen for their zeal and taken into the depths of the Eye of Terror, they returned changed — their bodies host to entities from beyond, able to unleash the horrors of the empyrean while still clad in the flesh of Astartes.

In battle they were monstrous. A Gal Vorbak could burst its human shape to reveal the daemon riding within, growing claws and maws and unnatural strength, tearing through loyalist ranks with powers no mortal weapon was meant to face. They were living proof of the Crimson Path their Legion had chosen, warriors who had surrendered their very souls to serve as vessels for the gods of ruin.

The Gal Vorbak fought at the war's darkest hours, and their sacrifice was total — many were destroyed as the daemons bound within them burned through their flesh. Yet they marked a threshold crossed. In their transformation the Word Bearers unveiled to the galaxy that this was no ordinary rebellion but a war of damnation, and that the enemy now numbered the denizens of hell among its ranks.
