The Departmento Munitorum is the division of the Adeptus Terra responsible for supplying, transporting, and sustaining the armed forces of mankind. It is the logistical engine behind the Astra Militarum, raising the tithes of soldiers and materiel that feed the Imperium's endless wars.
The scale of its task defies comprehension. The Munitorum must arm, feed, clothe, and move armies numbering in the untold billions, shipping troops, tanks, ammunition, and rations to warzones scattered across the galaxy. It sets the tithe-grades that determine how many regiments a world must raise, matches manpower to conflict, and keeps the ledgers by which whole crusades are provisioned. A single misallocation can lose a campaign; a well-managed supply line can win one.
Like all Imperial institutions, it is ponderous, corrupt, and prone to catastrophic error. Regiments have starved for want of supplies routed to the wrong world, while others drown in equipment they cannot use. Yet without the Munitorum the war machine would grind to a halt, and so this vast arm of the Administratum remains one of the most essential, and most maddening, of all the Imperium's servants.
