Melta Weapons

Melta weapons are short-ranged heat weapons designed to reduce armour, bunkers, and war machines to slag in a single blast. They project a beam of intense thermal energy, superheating whatever they strike to the point of melting or explosive vaporisation. At close range there is almost no protection thick enough to save a target from their fury, which makes them the tool of choice for cracking open tanks and fortifications.

The family spans several forms: the compact meltagun carried by infantry specialists, the pistol-sized inferno variants, and heavier multi-meltas that can devastate multiple targets or the most heavily armoured foes. Their defining limitation is range. A melta weapon delivers appalling destruction up close, but its power drops away sharply over distance, so users must brave enemy fire to reach effective striking range.

The hiss and shimmer of superheated air, and the way struck metal runs like water, make these weapons unmistakable in battle. Because they combine devastating output with relative portability, melta weapons are prized across the armies of the setting. The Space Marines deploy them for lightning strikes against enemy armour, while the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus maintain the sacred rites needed to keep such potent devices functioning.
