A Daemon Prince is a mortal champion of Chaos who has been elevated to daemonhood as the ultimate reward for a lifetime of service to the Dark Gods. Where a common warrior might hope for power, plunder, or long life, the most favoured are granted apotheosis itself, transformed body and soul into an immortal daemon of terrible might.
The path to this ascension is long and merciless. A prospective champion must win victory after victory, slaughter, corrupt, and conspire in the name of a chosen patron, and above all attract the attention of a god who might deem them worthy. Many aspirants labour for centuries; countless more fail and are reduced to gibbering Chaos Spawn, their ambition outrunning their strength.
Those who succeed are remade as towering horrors that combine a mortal's cunning with a daemon's power, often retaining the memories and hatreds of their former lives. Many of the most infamous were once Chaos Space Marines, traitor legionaries whose devotion earned them wings, claws, and the favour of the Chaos Gods. A Daemon Prince rules its own dominion in the Warp and may lead armies of the damned across the galaxy, a living testament to the rewards Chaos offers those willing to pay any price.
