The Imperial Gunnery School

The great artillery academy of Nuln, forge and schoolhouse of the Empire's cannon, where masters teach the deadly science of black powder war.

The Imperial Gunnery School of Nuln is the foremost seat of artillery learning in the Empire of Man, a sprawling complex of foundries, proving grounds, and lecture halls where the deadly science of black powder is taught, tested, and jealously advanced. From its furnaces come the great cannon, mortars, and Helblaster volley guns that give the imperial armies their thunderous edge over the horrors that beset them.

The school works in close and often prickly concert with the Engineers' Guild, sharing many masters and no small rivalry. Its instructors are master gunners who have earned their scars on a hundred battlefields, and its pupils learn not only the mathematics of trajectory and charge but the grim art of standing firm as the enemy closes and the fuses burn low. A graduate of Nuln's school is worth a dozen untrained crews, and their skills are sought across the Old World.

Nuln itself, straddling the Reik, is the industrial heart of the Empire, and its gun-foundries never cool. The school's cannon have shattered the war-machines of the Dwarfen Mountain Holds rivals and torn great holes in the hordes of Chaos, though the school guards its finest secrets against theft by rival guilds and the ever-scheming ratmen. In an age where courage alone is not enough, the masters of Nuln offer the Empire a colder and more reliable ally — the certainty of good powder and a well-laid gun.
