The Cult of Shallya is the faith of mercy, healing, and compassion, and in the grim and violent world of the Empire of Man it stands as a rare light of gentleness. Shallya is the goddess of the wounded and the suffering, and her white-robed priestesses devote their lives to easing pain, tending the plague-stricken, and offering succour to any soul in need, be they beggar or baron.
The cult's temples serve as hospices and almshouses, and its sisters are famed for a courage of a different kind than the knight's — they walk without fear into plague-houses and battlefields, ministering to the dying where others flee. So sacred is their vow of mercy that even hardened soldiers and brigands are loath to harm a priestess of Shallya, for to spill the blood of the goddess's servants is to invite a curse no man wishes upon himself.
Yet compassion is a fragile thing in an age of horrors. The sisters tend victims of the ratmen's foul plagues and the ravages of the Skaven, and too often their mercy is repaid with cruelty. Still they persist, for the cult teaches that to relieve even one soul's suffering is a victory worth any cost. In a world that grinds the weak beneath its heel, the servants of Shallya are the tender conscience that refuses, wholly, to die.
