The Amethyst College is the order of magic within the Empire of Man that masters Shyish, the Purple Wind of Death. Its wizards, called Amethyst magisters, study mortality and the passage of the soul, and their melancholy demeanour and skull-adorned regalia mark them apart from all other practitioners of the arcane arts.
Despite their grim reputation, Amethyst Wizards are not necromancers, for they revile the abominations of undeath. Instead they wield the Lore of Death to speed the wounded toward their fate, drain the vitality of foes, and perceive the moment of a mortal's passing. Many walk the battlefields as sombre reapers, treating death not as an evil but as a natural and inevitable order.
Among the eight Colleges of Magic, the Amethyst Order is the most solitary and contemplative, its members drawn to graveyards and quiet places where the boundary between the living and the dead grows thin.
