The Sniper Rifle is the instrument of the patient killer, a long-barrelled weapon of exquisite precision built to end a life across vast distances before the victim ever knows death has come for them. Whether firing a hypervelocity slug or a focused beam of coherent light, it is designed for a single purpose: the removal of a chosen target with surgical, unerring accuracy.
Across the armies of the astra-militarum, sniper rifles are borne by scout regiments and specialist marksmen who lie hidden for days amid rubble and mire, awaiting the perfect shot. Their prey is never the common soldier but the officer, the commissar-slayer, the psyker, the standard-bearer, the vital few whose deaths unravel an entire enemy formation. A single well-placed round can rout a host that a thousand lasguns could not break.
Some rifles fire specialised rounds, toxin-laced or armour-piercing, and the most skilled among the imperial-agents wield weapons capable of felling foes many battlefields distant. The marksman is a creature of stillness and cold resolve, taught that a wasted shot is a betrayal and that mercy is a luxury the Imperium cannot afford.
