Plasma weapon

Plasma Pistol

A compact sidearm that unleashes bolts of superheated plasma hot enough to melt armour, at the risk of immolating its bearer.

The Plasma Pistol distils the annihilating power of star-fire into a weapon light enough for a single hand, hurling seething bolts of magnetically contained hydrogen plasma that reduce warriors and war-engines to slag. It is a sidearm of officers, champions, and heroes across the Imperium, a mark of both privilege and peril.

Such power is never given freely. The plasma pistol's containment coils strain against the sun-hot matter within, and a bearer who charges the weapon to its fullest courts catastrophe, for a failed field can vent that fury back into the wielder's own hand. The Space Marines trust their gene-forged resilience and machine-blessed weapons to master this risk, while lesser men wield it only with prayer and dread.

The Adeptus Mechanicus guards the mysteries of plasma containment jealously, and each pistol is a relic of arcane craft, its firing rites and cooling litanies known to few. To draw a plasma pistol is to hold a fragment of a caged star, a promise of ruin to the foe and a whispered threat to the one who dares command it.
