Plasma Weapon

Plasma Gun

A weapon of caged star-fire that hurls searing plasma to melt through the heaviest armour, though it may burn out and slay the one who fires it.

The plasma gun harnesses a sliver of star-fire and hurls it at the enemy. It superheats a charge of hydrogen fuel into roiling plasma and flings it in a searing bolt that melts through the thickest armour and immolates whatever lies beneath. A single shot can slay a warrior in the heaviest plate or crack open a light tank, leaving nothing but slag and steam.

Such power is not tamed without danger. Plasma weapons run murderously hot, and a gun pushed to a supercharged shot may flare out of control, venting its caged star-fire back through the housing to scorch or even kill the one who fired it. Every trigger-pull is a small gamble against catastrophe, and the coils must be allowed to cool lest the whole weapon become a bomb.

For this reason the plasma gun is entrusted to steady, disciplined hands. The Space Marines issue it to warriors trained to judge each shot, while the Astra Militarum grant it to veteran troopers and the tech-adepts of Mars revere the fickle machine-spirits within. All of them respect the weapon in equal measure, for a plasma gun in good order can win a battle in a heartbeat, and a plasma gun that fails can end its bearer just as fast. Veterans speak of it with a wary reverence that borders on superstition, coaxing its coils, murmuring to its machine-spirit, and choosing with great care the instant to unleash its terrible, unstable brilliance.
