The grav-gun is an arcane weapon that turns a foe's own strength against him. It projects a focused field of intense gravitational force, crushing its target beneath a phantom weight many times that of a homeworld's pull. The better armoured the victim, the more surely the weapon slays, for heavy plate becomes a coffin that grinds its wearer to pulp within.
Grav weapons are among the most sophisticated technologies the Imperium can still build, their inner workings barely understood even by the adepts who assemble them. This is why a grav-gun is treasured and rare, issued to elite squads with strict orders to spend its shots wisely — on the enemy's champions, its living tanks and its most heavily armoured elites, where a lesser weapon would only scratch the surface.
The Adeptus Mechanicus guard the secrets of their manufacture jealously, and it is chiefly they and the Space Marines who field them in any number. Against a foe encased in the thickest armour there are few deadlier weapons in the galaxy; against a naked, unarmoured wretch, few less efficient. The grav-gun is thus a specialist's instrument, wielded by warriors trained to read a battlefield and loose its crushing pulse only when it will do the most terrible work. To watch one used well is to see a battle's logic turned upside down, as the enemy's proudest, best-protected champions are the very first to fall, ground into ruin inside the armour that was meant to keep them safe.
