Volkite weapon

Conversion Beamer

An arcane beam weapon that transmutes matter into raw energy, growing exponentially more destructive across greater distances.

The Conversion Beamer is among the most enigmatic relics of the Imperium's arsenal, a weapon born of archaeotech so ancient that its true principles are understood by none save the highest magi. It fires a beam that reacts with a target's own mass, converting matter directly into a cataclysmic release of energy. The further the beam travels before impact, the more devastating the transmutation becomes, until at extreme range it can shatter fortress walls and vaporise armoured vehicles in a single searing pulse.

Among the tech-priests of the adeptus-mechanicus, the Conversion Beamer is treated as a holy instrument, its firing accompanied by prayers of binding and rites of activation lest its unstable machine-spirit turn upon its keeper. Each surviving pattern is a treasure beyond price, and the loss of even one is mourned as the death of irreplaceable knowledge.

The weapon's counterintuitive nature demands a particular discipline in its wielder, for at close quarters it is nearly harmless, while across the breadth of a battlefield it becomes an engine of ruin. Magi who bear it station themselves upon high ground and distant ridges, unleashing beams that reduce distant strongpoints to drifting motes of ash. To the enemy, death arrives as a silent shimmer from an impossibly far horizon.
