A Techmarine is a Space Marine who has been trained in the mysteries of technology by the Adeptus Mechanicus, serving as the keeper of his Chapter's machines and war-gear. Uniquely among his brothers, he swears a dual loyalty, honouring both the Emperor and the Machine God, a rare bridge between two of the Imperium's most powerful and secretive institutions.
To become a Techmarine, an Astartes is sent to the forge-world of Mars, where he spends years learning the sacred rites of maintenance, construction, and repair that the tech-priests guard so jealously. He returns bearing the marks of that priesthood, often augmented with mechanical implants and a mechadendrite servo-harness, and clad in the rust-red that signals his allegiance to the Machine God alongside his Chapter's colours.
The Techmarine's duties are indispensable. He tends the Space Marine Chapter's armour, vehicles, and revered weapons, coaxing the machine-spirits within them to war and healing their wounds as an Apothecary heals flesh. He commands the servitors that labour in the armoury and safeguards the ancient, irreplaceable relics of war. Without the Techmarines, the Space Marines could not keep their engines of destruction running, and their fury would fall silent for want of a guiding hand.
