The Incarnates were the eight mortal champions who, in the cataclysm of the End Times, each became the living vessel of one of the Winds of Magic — the last, desperate hope of the free peoples against the final triumph of Chaos. As the world came apart, the eight winds sought out hosts strong enough to contain them, and those chosen were transformed into beings of terrible power, each embodying a single lore of magic made flesh.
Among their number were some of the mightiest heroes of the age: the high elf mage Teclis, who bore the wind of light; the Empire general Karl Franz, wreathed in the lightning of the heavens; the Everqueen Alarielle, incarnate of life; and champions of the dwarfs, the wood elves, and the vampires alike, for the hour was so dark that even old enemies stood together. United by the necessity of the world's ending, they formed an alliance unlike any before it.
The Incarnates were assembled to make a final stand against the Everchosen and the hordes of Chaos as reality itself unravelled. Theirs was a last gamble to gather the sundered magic of the world into eight living weapons and hurl it against the dark. In the annals of the Old World they stand as the ultimate expression of an old truth — that when the end comes, the peoples of the world can, at the last, set aside their endless feuds and face the darkness as one, even if the world they fight for is already slipping away beneath them.
