Praag is the northern city of Kislev that has come to stand, above all others, for the horror of what Chaos does to a place it has touched. Set on the road between the Kislevite capital and the marches of the frozen north, Praag has always been the first great city to bar the way of invasions descending from the Chaos Wastes.
During the Great War Against Chaos, the horde of Asavar Kul laid siege to Praag for so long, and saturated it so utterly in the raw stuff of the Wastes, that the very fabric of the city was warped. When the siege at last broke, Praag did not return to stone and timber: its walls had run like wax and set again into a nightmare, faces screaming from the masonry, arms reaching from the walls, whole streets fused into shapes no mason had cut. The old city had to be pulled down and raised anew upon the horror beneath.
Rebuilt, Praag endures as a grim fortress-city, its people among the hardiest and most fatalistic in the world, for they live atop the memory of the worst thing that can befall the living. Its garrison watches the north unceasingly, knowing that the tide will come again. To the folk of the Empire to the south, Praag is a byword and a warning — proof of what waits should the northern watch ever fail.
