Keeper of the Everwinter

Huskard on Thundertusk

The frost-priest and lore-keeper of an alfrostun, riding a thundertusk as a living altar through which the everwinter itself is called down.

A Huskard is the frost-priest and lore-keeper of a Beastclaw alfrostun, second only to the Frostlord in the grim hierarchy of the Ogor Mawtribes. Where a Frostlord commands, a Huskard remembers — carrying the oral history of the tribe, the reading of the everwinter's moods, and the sacred rites that keep the great beasts bound to their riders. The mightiest of them ride to war atop a thundertusk, and from that frozen throne the Huskard becomes a conduit for the everwinter itself, calling down blizzards, hardening his kin against the killing cold, and blessing the tribe's harpoons with frost. In the reckoning of the Beastclaw, the Huskard is the nearest thing to a shaman, interpreting the will of the Gulping God as it shows itself in the endless winter that hounds his people. He fights as fiercely as any lord, but it is his voice the alfrostun heeds in the long dark between battles — the voice that decides when to move, where to hunt, and which frozen omen means the everwinter is closing in behind them once more.
