Kept in the deepest vault of Karaz-a-Karak and guarded with a reverence beyond that given to any hoard of gold, the Great Book of Grudges — the Dammaz Kron in the dwarfen tongue — is the sacred chronicle of every injury, insult, and betrayal ever visited upon the Dwarfen Mountain Holds. Its pages, inscribed in blood and bound in iron and stone, stretch back to the founding of the first holds, and not one entry has ever been forgotten.
When a wrong is done to the dwarfs — a hold sacked, an oath broken, a debt denied — it is set down in the Dammaz Kron by the High King himself, and there it remains until the grudge is answered in full. A grudge may be settled in a single generation or endure for thousands of years, but settled it must be, for to leave a grudge unanswered is a shame that stains the honour of an entire clan.
This unyielding memory is the iron soul of dwarfen character. Grudges recorded against the elves in ages past have never faded, and reckonings sworn against goblin, skaven, and treacherous man alike are pursued with grim patience across the centuries. To strike a name from the Book — to cross out a settled grudge — is among the proudest acts a dwarf may perform. So long as the Dammaz Kron endures, no wrong done to the dwarfs shall ever truly be forgiven.
