The Knights of the Grail are the most exalted warriors of the Kingdom of Bretonnia, knights who completed the sacred Grail Quest and were deemed worthy to drink from the chalice of the Lady of the Lake. That draught transforms them body and soul — Grail Knights age slowly if at all, shrug off wounds that would fell lesser men, and radiate an aura of holy dread that unmans their foes.
To become a Grail Knight, a questing knight must forsake home, name, and comfort, wandering the wilds in search of the Lady's grace, subsisting on rainwater and errantry until the vision comes or death takes him. Those few who succeed return as living saints, their vows fulfilled, and they are venerated by peasant and noble alike. Many withdraw to become hermits or Grail Guardians, emerging only in the kingdom's darkest hours.
In battle the Knights of the Grail are without peer among mortal cavalry, their charge an unstoppable thunder of lance and faith. They ride against the vile ratmen, the raiding Dark Elves, and the undead legions that haunt Bretonnia's borders, and where they charge, the Lady's blessing turns the tide. To the folk of Bretonnia they are proof made flesh that the Lady watches over her realm, and that chivalry, though it demands everything, is rewarded in the end.
