Barak Varr is the famed sea-hold of the dwarfs, a wonder among the strongholds of the Dwarfen Mountain Holds. Where most of dwarfkind delves deep beneath the earth, the folk of Barak Varr carved their home into the towering cliffs of the coast, raising a vast harbour-fortress whose gates open upon the sea. It is the only true naval power the dwarfs possess, and its ironclad ships are the terror of pirates and raiders alike.

The hold is a marvel of engineering, its cavernous docks hewn from living rock and its batteries of cannon guarding the approaches by sea and land. The seafaring dwarfs of Barak Varr are a hardy and unusual breed among their kin, as comfortable upon the rolling waves as their cousins are in the deep mines. Their trade reaches to distant ports, and their guns have broken many a foolish foe who thought the dwarfs helpless upon the water.

Like all the ancient holds, Barak Varr has endured its share of grief across the long, slow decline of the dwarf realms. Yet it stands unbroken, its harbours busy and its guns primed, a proud bastion where the mountain folk have mastered the sea. In an age of dwindling glory, Barak Varr remains a testament to the tenacity and ingenuity of the dawi.
